Trick question for Abraham Law of Attraction fans: do your circumstances determine how you feel? In other words, if the bank turned down your loan request or if you just broke your big toe, are you likely to feel upset?
Nearly all of us would say yes. Of course. This would be natural.
But if we asked Abraham, they would tell us there’s no good reason to allow our circumstances to determine our emotional responses and moods.
In fact, they would remind us that allowing outside circumstances to determine our moods is how most humans keep themselves stuck in what they don’t want. After all if you’re feeling angry, Law of Attraction keeps matching you with circumstances that trigger anger.
Yet, even though we understand the consequences, the habit of permitting circumstances to determine how we feel is entrenched in almost everyone.
So here’s a tiny Law of Attraction tweak to help you break free of it.
It’s called the To Feel list – and it’s a very old Abraham-Hicks process I haven’t heard them talk about in decades. Here’s how it works:
1. As soon as you awaken in the morning reach for a pad of paper and a pen and write at the top of the page “Today I want to feel”
2. Then begin to write down the feelings you want today. Don’t over think this – just begin to write: “I want to feel happy,” “I want to feel successful,” “I want to feel energetic”…
3. Once you start the thoughts going and the hand writing it’s almost as if there’s a flow of energy that inspires you with even more feelings you want to claim for yourself.
4. If you have something specific on your calendar, let’s say it’s a meeting with your biggest client, you can write something specific such as “I want to feel a loving connection to Mary during out meeting today.”
5. After a few minutes (typically 3-5 minutes), you’ll feel the energy flow subside, and you are done. Check your list and make sure every statement is about an emotion. This is not a To Do list. It is a To Feel list.
Why does this little process have the power to create huge results? It works because you have just told the universe your preferred vibrational point of attraction today. You have declared, in advance of any actual circumstances taking place, what your moods and emotions will be.
Although this exercise is simple, it’s incredibly powerful. It teaches you the habit of choosing your emotions, rather than waiting for your circumstances to choose them for you.
At the end of the day, review your list, and you will begin to notice that the universe truly does listen to your requests! The second powerful key to this exercise is it develops your awareness and experience of the universe responding to you.
It may take a few days before you can identify specific instances in which the universe responded to you. I recommend you make the To Feel List a 7-day experiment. If you’re like me and most of my coaching clients, you’ll be hooked on this simple little list well before the week is over.
